Staycation: The best place to stay in Tbilisi - Museum Hotel Orbeliani

Located in the heart of old Tbilisi, Museum Hotel Orbeliani is a boutique hotel that boasts both luxury and heritage feels. We arrived at night and upon arrival we couldn’t help but notice how beautifully lit the hotel exterior was. What was also very appealing was it’s name. The boutique hotel is located in a historical residence of an old noble family Orbeliani, well known in high society of old Georgia. Back in those days the Orbeliani family used to host the delegations, aristocrats, famous writers and public figures with special warmth and respect for dinner and tea.

The architecture and interior design of Museum hotel is very unique and eye-catching. It combines historic details of 19th century with modern, chic elegance. The ambiance of the hotel is quaint and homey and the warm feel makes any guest feel right at home!

The hotel features 46-rooms and each room perfectly combines eastern and western influences of Tbilisi. We stayed in a Dry Bridge Suite room which was 30m². The room was very spacious and had a cosy feel to it. We also had a balcony that looked out to the streets of Tbilisi which was the perfect way to start our day, sitting there with a cup of tea. Every room at this hotel is air conditioned and also features a flat-screen TV, a safe, minibar, bathrobes, slippers and free toiletries and even heating for those cold nights!

Mueseum Hotel also features various dining outlets - a gourmet Persian and Georgian cuisine restaurant; Sirajkhana, and a more casual restaurant Cafe Museum. Sirajkhana - which means a “wine house” from ancient Georgian slang, is a modern wine restaurant, with a signature cuisine concept, inspired by blend by of two different cultures. The wine restaurant seats 100 and the menu features wine-pairing and eccentric flavours from various dishes to compliment.

Cafe Museum was one of my favourite things about the hotel. Breakfast was also served here everyday from 7-11am and boasted a variety of hot and cold dishes within a buffet. This included cheese platters, cold cuts, muesli pots, eggs, fresh bread, mini kachapuri, french toast, sausages, salad, a variety of jams and spreads, fresh fruit, and more! Each day the buffet would change and include new and different items that resembled both georgian and international flavours. The cafe had a green outdoor area which was the perfect scenery and fresh air to start our day and enjoy our delicious, deluxe breakfast - which was one of the best we’ve ever had!

The location is ideal as the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre is 600 m away and Freedom Square is only 800 m away. Across the hotel, guests can also find the Dry Bridge Flea Market is 100 m where you can purchase old, antique goods. Other main attractions nearby include the famous Narikala Fortress which is 1.8 km away and Rustaveli Avenue which is an 8-minute walk away. Free private parking is also available on site.

For anyone visiting Tbilisi or wanting to do a staycation in Tbilisi, we 100% would recommend Museum Hotel. All the staff were so friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were very comfortable and well taken care of. The rooms, service, food and location all could not have been better and we will definitely be making a trip back here.
