STAYCATION: THE MURRAY, HONG KONG
Located between Garden Road and Cotton Tree Drive in Central, The Murray is a sophisticated and elegantly designed hotel that was recently opened in Hong Kong.
The hotel features 336 rooms and suites spanning 25 floors from floors 5 to 25 (there are no floors 4, 14 or 24).
We stayed in the N3 Grand Deluxe Room which offered unobstructed views of the adjacent St John's Cathedral. It was 50 square metres in size and the room was thoughtfully designed with contemporary interiors accented with plush carpets on hardwood floors while surfaces are covered with rare stones, leather and textiles. The elegant room also offered seamless technology including complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and broadband internet access, Smart TV and bedside lighting controls. Luxurious bed and bath amenities, separate bath and shower facilities in black and white Calacatta marble are accompanied by a host of complimentary amenities offering a perfect getaway experience.
Also In the room you will find bottled water, tea and coffee, and a small bowl of fruit, and there is a double daily service of the room keeping it tidy, replenishing towels, and ensuring you have a bucket of ice. Many rooms have free standing baths and all have showers with both power showers and rain showers. These are also well designed so you don’t end up flooding the floors outside around the basin. The doors through to the bathrooms, have “magic glass” which turns from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button, useful if you are staying with a partner and want privacy. They also have a lovely pattern referencing the arches of the lower levels of the building.
The amenity brand in the room is Grown Alchemist– Australian, and all rooms offer 24-hour in-room dining service. On the 23rd floor, there are the hotel’s top four suites: the Cotton Tree, Park, Penthouse and two Murray suites.
The hotel has a small fitness centre on level 3 and also a spa with five treatment rooms, two of which are for couples.
The Murray’s restaurants and bars are some of the finest amongst restaurants in Central, Hong Kong, offering the most memorable dining and lifestyle experiences in the city. From the stunning rooftop restaurant and bar Popinjays with its breath-taking views and private dining room to Garden Lounge and The Tai Pan at Garden Level, from the Murray Lane to Guo Fu Lou, the city’s premier Cantonese dining destination in its stand-alone pavilion, The Murray provides guests with exceptional cuisines from around the world and spoils them for choice with where they want to dine!
We had a wine-pairing dinner at the Tai Pan which offered a menu of international dishes and grilled specialties to entice the appetites of discerning diners. The restaurant combines outstanding cuisine with exceptional and intuitive service within a sophisticated setting. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. The staff were also very informative, explaining each course with the wine they had chosen for us.
This is a great new addition to the luxury hotels in Hong Kong. The staff and service was very good throughout and it was nice to have a new perspective from the hustle that is Central.
