New Year, New Hair at M.I Salon
Located in the heart of central, M.i salon is a salon who caters for all your beauty needs, providing a range of hair and nail services for everyone to enjoy. Co-founded by Calvin Chan, and today part of Il Colpo Group “M.i” is an abbreviation for ‘many imagination’ which is what clients can expect when entering. The elegant, minimalistic interior sets a very calm and relaxing atmosphere.
For those looking for a little more privacy, there are two private rooms, one for a couple and one solo, and what was very unique was that the salon also has a special area for children to play or wait as their parents get pampered!
Upon arrival I was shown to my seat and met with my hairstylist and colourist. I was going for a balayage look to refresh my hair. Balayage is simply a work of art. It is a free hand technique where your stylist paints each of your light strands with a brush and a paddle. It is a very creative technique, that requires skill and artistry (and time!) for it to look beautiful.
As my hair is naturally a dark brown I wanted to go for something that would stand out but not look too unnatural. The stylist suggested a dark-caramel brown and suggested as I already had balayage done before, he touches up my roots mainly so that the colour fades our nicely.
After my consultation, I sat back with some magazines and a cup of tea and watched the stylist start to transform my hair. He proceeded to section of my hair and then paint it, before wrapping each part carefully in foil. Once that was done it took about 20 minutes for it to rest before I was taken for a hair wash. Throughout my time at the salon I noticed lots of people in and out getting their hair done which shows how popular they were!
After the 20 minutes were up, another stylist took me to get my hair washed. I must admit, a hair wash is probably my favourite part of getting my hair done. It was extremely relaxing and M.i Salon also give you a mini head massage to go with it which felt amazing.
A small trim and a blow dry later, I could see the difference in my hair colour. Everything was much more balanced out without looking too drastic! The brown and caramel colours blended in nicely with each other and my hair looked a lot more alive and refreshed! The perfect way to begin 2021.

The whole process took about 2 1/2 hours including a hair wash, hair trim and blow dry.
For those who are looking to get their hair done in a relaxing environment with some of HK’s best hairstylists this is the place to go to. Be sure to book in advance because they get quite full up!
